Adobe launches a standalone version of the Firefly application for Android and iOS, aiming to make artificial intelligence (AI) image and video generation tools more accessible to everyday users. This move will mark the company's creative AI capabilities for the first time a streamlined mobile interface.

The new app brings several important tools, including generation filling, generative extension, text-to-image, text-to-video video, and video capabilities. Generated filling allows users to seamlessly erase unwanted elements from their photos, or introduce new objects that were not there originally. On the other hand, generative extensions allow images to be extended to a variety of aspect ratios. This is a useful feature for adjusting content to various social media platforms.
The text-based creation process for Firefly apps is similar to products from other major technicians such as Openai, Google, and Meta. For video content, the app is currently generating clips up to 5 seconds long.
While these AI features have already been integrated into Adobe's flagship programs such as Photoshop and Lightroom, the Firefly mobile app aims to showcase in a more focused, user-friendly format. Users can also choose Adobe's own AI models and models developed by Openai or Google to generate images and videos.
The Firefly app is free to download, but credits are required to generate content. A spokesperson speaking to Bloomberg said users without an existing Adobe Creative Cloud subscription can choose the new $4.99-a month plan that grants additional credits and removes access to premium features.
Content created in the app will be automatically synced with your Creative Cloud account and will be available for further editing on the desktop platform.
With this release, Adobe is firmly positioned in its competitive AI Creativity Space, offering a mobile-first experience that caters to both casual users and professionals on the go.
