Generated AI Leader Certification
Last week, Google Cloud announced its “first-time” generation AI certification for non-technical learners, including managers and business leaders. According to Google, the course focuses on how to strategically adopt, discuss and lead generative AI efforts.

The Google Cloud Generative AI Leader certification exam lasts for $99 for 90 minutes, but is available from May 14th. Although certification costs money, Google is positioned as an investment.
Generated AI Leader Free Course
Google Cloud also offers cost-free learning passes with Google Cloud Skills Boost. This pass allows users to prepare for the exam and learn more about the benefits of generating AI through hands-on experiences, podcast-style videos, and more. The best part is that technically you can pass the module without taking the test. You have no evidence to show for your upskills, but you can still apply what you have learned to your work.
Google shares that it takes 7-8 hours to complete the study path and is split into five courses.
- Gen AI: Beyond Chatbots It aims to educate users on the fundamentals of generator AI that go beyond the general concepts of technology.
- Gen AI: Unlock basic concepts It explains concepts such as large-scale language models and various data types.
- Gen AI: Navigate the landscape It provides an overview of the broader AI ecosystem, including various types of models and platforms.
- Gen AI Apps: Transform your work Investigate use cases for generating AI within the enterprise.
- Gen AI Agent: Transform your organization We'll explore how AI agents can drive change in critical organizations.
How to access
If you want to access the course, simply go to the Generate AI Leader Course in Google Cloud Skills Boost. To register for the exam, you will need to visit the Generic AI Reader page on the Google Cloud Certification website. Online or on-site supervised exams have options. Certification has been evaluated for 3 years and there are no prerequisites to register. This page also provides future testers with a generative AI reader testing research guide. This is free to everyone.

If this certification is outside your budget, there are other options available online at all different price ranges, many of which are free. ZDNet has collected the best free AI courses and certificates in 2025. Also, LinkedIn last week, by the end of May, it offered the most popular AI courses for all users, free of charge.
