GenAI-related jobs are on the rise in India, with 42% of these jobs in India mentioning “machine learning” and 40% calling for “Python” skills, according to a survey by HR tech platform Indeed.
While Python is considered highly important for roles involving GenAI, other AI and communications skills such as natural language processing (20%), TensorFlow (19%) and data science (17%) are also in demand, appearing in 36% and 23% of job ads respectively.

Commenting on the findings, Sashi Kumar, Head of Sales, Indeed India, said, “India needs to focus on upskilling to be a leader in the global discussion on AI. Companies should support further learning for their employees to equip them with the necessary skills.”
In an official statement, Indeed said that Indian AI professionals are highly optimistic about employment opportunities with over 85% expecting AI to create new jobs in the next 1-5 years. The time is ripe for a technology-led skills transformation to lead in the AI era.
Citing projections from NASSCOM and BCG, Indeed said in its report that the Indian AI market is expected to reach a market size of $17 billion by 2027, witnessing a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 25% to 35%. However, according to Indeed, this rapid expansion has created a significant skills gap, with businesses struggling to find capable professionals with the expertise required to implement and manage these evolving technologies.
