Residents of Bengaluru have lost £3.75 crore to cyber con artists who use deep fake videos of self-style spiritual guru Sadguru to promote fake trading platforms. Varsha Gupta from CV Raman Nagar bumped into a YouTube video generated by AI on February 25, 2025. The deepfake video showed Sadhguru, who supports investments starting from $250 for “huge financial profits.”

After clicking on the video link, Gupta was contacted by Waleed B, who claims to represent an app called Mirrox. The scammers conducted trading lessons via Zoom using international numbers and emails. Meanwhile, another con man, “Michael C,” provided backup support. The scammer persuaded the women to download the app and transfer the money.

Between February and April 2025, the victim transferred the entire amount from his bank account and credit card to an account managed by the scammer. Police suspect this has formed part of a larger cybercrime network and is investigating all angles of the operation.
