PUNE: As the ILS (Indian Law Society) Pune College of Law celebrates its 100th anniversary, the school’s Chief Professor Deepa Patrukhar spoke about the future plans the authorities have taken for the institute.
Are there any new courses or programs run by ILS?
In addition to the current remedial, diploma and certification courses, we plan to introduce additional bridge courses. We plan to launch courses in areas such as artificial intelligence (AI), pre-law issues, machine learning (ML), and law. These new courses are aimed at undergraduate and graduate students. Literacy in AI and ML, and interfacing with law, will help students understand and address challenges in this area.
What are the Institute’s public funding programs?
We carry out a wide range of activities together with the Legal Aid Center established in 1976. The center provided free legal aid to socially marginalized groups in Maharashtra. Education was the basic purpose of this institute, but the public needs legal awareness of their rights and obligations. The ILS Legal Aid Center is student- and faculty-run and committed to making people aware of their constitutional and fundamental rights.
Are there any new changes or developments planned on campus?
The playground has recently been renovated and the boys’ dormitory will also be upgraded. As we approach our 100th anniversary, management will take steps to upgrade our infrastructure and curriculum.
