Two Kenyan companies have been selected as one of 21 African companies to participate in Google's first Generative AI Cohort, receiving more than $20 million (Shs2.6 billion) in funding for their projects.

Jacaranda Health and EIDU will benefit from a six-month program aimed at supporting nonprofit organizations developing high-impact applications of generative AI.

Google said the selected organizations will focus on areas such as climate, economic opportunity, health, education and crisis response. In addition to technical training, you'll also receive free support from workshops, mentors, and AI coaches.

“Generative AI enables social impact teams to be more productive, creative, and effective in contributing to their communities. We look forward to helping address some of the continent's most pressing challenges,” said Dorothy Oko, Google's Head of Communications and Public Affairs for Africa.

Jacaranda Health uses natural language processing (NLP) trained in African languages to extend digital health services to underserved mothers.

As a result, EIDU uses generative AI to provide personal tutoring to low- and middle-income countries through customized digital learning tasks.

The initiative program also includes organizations from the United States, United Kingdom, France, and Germany.

Although AI technology performs tasks on very short timescales, research shows that almost half of those using AI technology lack the tools, awareness, training, and funding to implement it. I found out that

Businesses are turning to AI as a tool to streamline operations, improve decision-making processes, and reduce risk, with the ultimate goal of providing more personalized and efficient services to customers.

However, there are concerns that the automation associated with the introduction of this disruptive technology risks some jobs being replaced by machines.

Jobs at risk of being replaced include data entry clerks, travel agents, cashiers, and customer service.
