Snapchat brings Perplexity AI to Snapchatters’ inboxes

AI News

Snapchat is buying another ticket on the AI hype train, with the company today announcing a new deal with Perplexity AI. Perplexity’s conversational chatbot has been integrated into Snapchat, adding another way for Snapchatters to utilize AI tools.

Perplexity is another variation of a ChatGPT-like interface that allows you to ask a chatbot questions and generate responses based on web sources.

Perplexity AI

Reviews suggest that Perplexity is actually better than ChatGPT in Rresearch and accuracybecause of its focus as an “answer engine”. However, although it is essentially the same concept, the form is different.

puzzled It claims to answer over 150 million questions every week.

And soon, Snapchatters will be able to ask Perplexity AI questions in-stream, giving them another way to find accurate and timely answers to a variety of questions.

Snapp explains:

“Starting in early 2026, Perplexity will be coming to the Chat interface popular with Snapchat users around the world. With this integration, Perplexity’s AI-powered answer engine will enable Snapchat users to ask questions and get clear, conversational answers pulled from verifiable sources, all within Snapchat.”

So how is it different from Snap’s “My AI” chatbot, which is also available in a chat interface?

Interestingly, according to Snapchat’s Help Center:

“My AI leverages large-scale language models, such as OpenAI’s GPT model and Google’s Gemini model, and is trained on a variety of texts, with added safety enhancements and Snapchat-specific controls.”

So, at least in theory, you could compare the answers from both AI tools by asking them the same question and seeing the results within your Snap inbox. So, again, while reviews suggest that Perplexity is better suited for research, there’s no need to compromise on one or the other when both Perplexity and GPT-powered AI bots are available.

Of course, that’s if my AI remains.

Probably so. Snap appears to be planning to offer two AI chatbots in-stream, as it states in its announcement that both options will be available. But again, the two AI chatbots and the “Sponsored Snaps” that appear in Snap DMs can make things a bit crowded and annoy some users.

But that seems to be the way Snap is going so far, and there’s good reason why Snap is considering adding Perplexity. Snapchat says Perplexity will pay for it $400 million to get Perplexity in Snapchatters’ inboxes for one year.

Yes, it can get crowded, but at that price, Snap takes care of that problem when it arises.

As previously mentioned, Snapchat says the Perplexity AI bot will be available on Snap during the new year.
