Simon Fraser University has signed a new agreement to partner with Bell, Canada's largest telecom company, bringing a significant advancement to Canada's AI and sovereign computing ecosystem.
The partners have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) connecting the Cedar Supercomputing Centre in Burnaby, British Columbia with TRU's future Bell AI Fabric Site, promoting the development of clean, sustainable data center technologies and formalizing collaborations investing in the Canadian AI Talent Pipeline.
Under the agreement, SFU and Bell will work to expand the Cedar Super Computing Centre (CSC). Home to Canada's fastest and most powerful academic supercomputers and on SFU's Burnaby campus, CSC provides Canadian researchers and industry users with the high-performance computing resources they need to make new discoveries in a wide range of fields.
Importantly, this infrastructure is under Canada's control by major Canadian public institutions and top Canadian companies. Users are confident that their data is safe.

SFU recently completed a major upgrade to the Cedar Super Computing Center. The Cedar Supercomputing Centre houses Canada's most powerful academic supercomputers today.
This collaboration will allow SFU and Bell to efficiently expand Canada's sovereign computing and AI capabilities, leveraging the availability of greater space, hydropower and industry talent to have economic impact across BC.
