While rivals like Electronic Arts and Ubisoft are entering the world of generative AI development with both feet, not all companies in the gaming industry are staying on guard.

During a recent Q&A session after Q2 earnings, Sega executives mentioned the use of AI in game creation (thanks VGC) and how it can help tackle rising development costs.

Sega’s response is as follows.

“Rather than completely following the flow of large-scale development, we will also promote efficiency through the use of AI. However, there is strong resistance to introducing AI in creative fields such as character production, so we will move forward while identifying appropriate use cases such as streamlining the development process.”

So while Sega is certainly not opposed to turning to AI to streamline production, it doesn’t seem like it’s going to embrace it with quite the same vigor as other companies.

Generative AI models are powerful tools, but they are often trained on the work of artists, musicians, and filmmakers.and animators without permission or compensation. Many models have been found to generate Get piracy results with minimal effort.

Nintendo has previously stated that it does not intend to use generative AI in its games at this time, citing “intellectual property issues” as one of the main reasons for avoiding its use.
