Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian recently recreated his moments with his late mother using artificial intelligence, bringing an emotionally recharged experience. Ohanian, known for sharing his deep family values online – married to tennis star Serena Williams – often posts about Serena and her daughters Olympia and Adira.

Using advanced AI technology, Ohanian chose an old photo of himself and his mother, turning it into a short animated clip depicting two embraces.

Sharing his experiences on social media, he wrote: “I wasn't prepared for how this would feel. We didn't have a video camera so there was no video of my mother.

This post features both original photos and AI-generated animations, capturing gentle moments between mother and son.

Although it was deeply meaningful to the Ohanians, the video triggered a mixed reaction online. Some users raised concerns about the psychological consequences of generating synthetic memory via AI. One commenter advised, “Beware of this. Human memories are very adaptable. I remember what AI shows you is true or not.”

Another user said, “That's not the way she hugged you. You were given the false memories.”

In response to criticism, Ohanian posted a follow-up tweet on Monday, June 23rd, clarifying his perspective. He states: “I lost my mother almost 20 years ago. The trolls are relieved and I am sad enough. My family couldn't afford a camcorder.

Despite the controversy, many users appreciated Ohanian's gestures and were inspired to create similar AI-generated videos featuring their own loved ones.
