By unveiling Essential, a new artificial intelligence platform, nothing will take a step forward to reconstructing how users interact with the software. The company says it is the first step towards building a personal operating system that relies on AI to make app creation simple and community-driven.
The platform introduces two main features: Essential apps allow users to design mini-applications by explaining what they need in natural language. These apps can be added directly to your device's home screen. Plus, Playground serves as a space where you can share, explore and remix apps that others have built, providing an alternative to traditional app stores.

The move comes after none of them set aside $200 million in Series C funding to support the transition to AI native platforms that integrate hardware and software.
Pass to required OS
Essential Nothing is planning to expand to Essential OS. It is described as a completely AI-based operating system. The aim is to move away from traditional mobile systems focused on engagement metrics and instead provide tools that increase creativity and personal utility. With the required apps, the process of building the software is accessible to all users, not just developers.

Core Community
The playground is designed to promote joint development. Instead of relying on a large software market, users can create applications tailored to their personal needs and share them with the wider community. Early versions of Essential have already created hundreds of apps, including tools for mental health tracking and family scheduling.
New features
The platform also includes CMF devices for storing and organizing ideas, which are available in Essential Space, Nothing. Essential Search provides quick access to information, but upcoming Essential Memory uses memory on the device when needed to remember and surface useful details when needed. Nothing emphasizes that these tools are private by default, unless the user chooses cloud storage.

Independent ecosystem
None of the emphasis on independence in important buildings. It's noting that it ships millions of devices and outpaces sales of $1 billion. According to the company, this position will help avoid a retention model that prioritizes control over innovation.
CEO Carl Pei described the initiative as a transition from legacy systems to a future of “unlimited access, collective innovation and hyper-personalization.” He said he aims to give users more control over their digital live while reducing unnecessary distractions.
Playground Hub is now live on Playground.nothing.tech, allowing users to start experimenting with AI-powered mini apps.
