What is the story
A recent study by Google's Dora Research Division revealed that a whopping 90% of high-tech industry workers use artificial intelligence (AI) for their jobs. The study surveyed 5,000 technology experts around the world, showing a significant 14% increase from last year. The findings arise amid growing concern and excitement over the impact of AI on employment and the economy.
Software engineering entry-level jobs are becoming increasingly difficult to find
Some people fear that AI could lead to increased unemployment, but others believe it creates new opportunities. However, it shows that entry-level workers are becoming increasingly difficult to secure employment in software engineering. This trend coincides with the layoffs wave in the tech industry. Many companies now offer tools for code generation and deploy agents for software development tasks at prices ranging from free to $45 per month.
Google is not alone in AI races
Google, which oversees tools like Gemini Code Assist, has discovered that most teams in the company use AI. Ryan J. Salva, who leads these efforts, said the technology is integrated into everything from document writing to code editors. However, Google is not alone in this race. It faces tough competition with Microsoft, Openai, humanity, and coding startups like Replit and Anysphere.
The coder was split into AI-generated quality of code
Despite the extensive use of AI, not all coders are sure of their value. The survey found that 46% of technology experts “a little” trust the quality of the AI-generated code, while 23% trust only “a little” trust. Meanwhile, 20% said they trusted them with a lot. Salva described the current state of software development as being between stages 3 and 4, a basic text prediction, on a scale that gives the AI ambiguous commands.
Computer Science graduates' unemployment rate has risen recently
The rise of AI tools is a challenging time for entry-level tech workers. According to the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, the unemployment rate among computer science graduates has been higher than unemployment rates in areas such as art history and English. In fact, job openings for software engineering roles increased by 71% between February 2022 and August 2025.
