META launches a surreal AI video editor

AI Video & Visuals

Meta's impressive film gen ai editing tool is beginning to pay off. On Tuesday, the company launched a new editor for the short video “inspired” by The Technology. With the editor, you can change clothes, location, style, and more. An example introduced by the company is head touring. We are approaching Hollywood-level CG effects that anyone can generate in seconds.

The editor allows you to choose from over 50 preset prompts. You can turn the subject of a video into comic art, marble statues, video game characters, and more. Or carry them to beaches or snowy scenes. You can also add dreamy lighting effects and color overlays.

You cannot enter a custom prompt yet. However, these are scheduled later this year.

The AI Editor is the first commercial spawn in Meta's film Gen Tech. It was previewed last year as a private research tool, and the results are surprisingly realistic. You can edit non-AAI videos, just like the Tool Meta released today. But it can also generate videos from scratch and turn photos into videos. (Don't be shocked if these capabilities also move to meta's consumer products.)

For now, new editing tools are available on the Meta AI app, the Meta.ai website and the editing app. Platform Head Adam Mosseri said Instagram will also be “over time.” (He also teased this feature last year.) The Mosseri demo video shows some wild examples of the effects you can try.
