Generation AI Lab LUMA AI has announced an update to Dream Machine. This is what is called the first AI video platform to combine a light realistic generation with professional grade editing tools.

According to the company, for the first time, filmmakers can not only generate visuals from prompts, but also modify and refine every shot accurately, directly.

This new feature, available to all subscribers, including enterprise partners, on July 31, enables artists, studios, advertisers and content creators to tweak, iterate, and direct AI video at a level of accuracy that approaches traditional post-production. According to Luma, some of the important new features include:

  • Precision frame improvements: Edit directly through the language within the frame and intelligently applied throughout the animation, making changes to achieve consistent results.
  • Smart Erase and Fill Through Language: Remove or replace parts of the frame while maintaining visual consistency with surrounding elements.
  • Subject Aware Edit: Use simple prompts to identify and modify specific people, backgrounds, or objects in your scene.
  • Edit Prompts: Start with an existing video and update using a new prompt, combining its repetitive power and creative direction.

“Dream Machine has already pushed the boundaries of AI videos, but today's launch will be a whole new domain,” Luma AI CEO Amit Jain said in a statement. “Moviemakers and advertisers no longer have to choose between creative control and AI speed. They get both. From indie storytellers to global brands, anyone can shape their vision with the accuracy and AI scale of their post-production teams.

According to Luma, directors can improve continuity across the scene, exchange environments without the need for a green screen, and apply unique visual styles. VFX teams can seamlessly delete objects, expand sets, and generate creatures and matte paintings. Storyboard artists can preview shots as animatics, but editors can quickly iterate with context learning, representation changes, and background replacement.

“Up to post-production polish, Dream Machine offers filmmakers the unprecedented film accuracy and creative flexibility,” reads Luma's release.

For advertisers and brand creatives, Dream Machine's new editing tools enable fast, high-quality asset generation at scale. Teams can create dynamic product visualizations, exchange colors and packaging, and adjust brand elements with prompts on social media, digital signage and printing. Text and logo adjustments, billboard mockups, and AR ad prototypes can be created in minutes rather than weeks.

According to Luma, advertisers can ensure visual cohesion across the campaign, with features like editing portraits in the ray and learning movies.

“The results were faster to go to the market, more personalized content, and dramatically reduced production costs,” the release reads.

The new editing feature is now available to all Dream Machine subscribers around the world.
