Despite the heated debate surrounding artificial intelligence, it is rapidly becoming the norm in the entertainment industry. Studios are slowly adopting this into their products, and one of the big adopters is Amazon. Generative AI is a relatively new technology. Therefore, the chances of making serious mistakes are high. Prime Video learned that the hard way…and not for the first time.
In November, Amazon announced Deployment of new generative AI beta feature for “Choose Prime Originals” to create show recap videos. It scanned the series and highlighted what it thought were the major plot points to play a recap before the new season. This feature was used in Amazon's hit video game adaptation fall outstarring Ella Purnell, Walter Goggins, and Aaron Moten. The show is starting its second season on December 17th, so it was a prime candidate (which wasn't originally my intention, but I'm now realizing it, so I support it) to receive a recap.
The synopsis for the show's first season was entirely generated by AI and also featured AI voiceover (described as “monotonic”). The Verge). Unfortunately, things didn't go as planned. As reported and confirmed by game radar, reddit Users noticed that the summary contained significant inaccuracies about the show. First of all, it said: fall outThe opening sequence, which centers on Cooper Howard, played by Walton Goggins, and his daughter before the nuclear disaster, was set in the 1950s.
This scene actually takes place in 2077, so this is off by several decades. Additionally, the summary states that Lucy (Ella Purnell) joined Ghoul (Goggins) after giving him a choice. “Either die or leave with him.” But the context that Lucy wasn't being threatened was missing. In fact, she had a motive to follow him to find her father. According to The Verge, some summaries were removed from streaming services after the situation received media attention. jack ryan, bosch, upload, rigand of course, fall out.
Gerard Medioni, vice president of technology at Prime Video, sums up AI: Amazon's original announcement: “Video Recaps is a breakthrough application of generative AI for streaming. This first-of-its-kind feature demonstrates Prime Video's continued commitment to innovation and making the viewing experience more accessible and enjoyable for our customers.”
This is actually the second time Amazon has suffered a major AI failure in December. Earlier this month, anime fans took note of the anime adaptation of this popular manga. banana fishReleased in 2018, it never received an English dub, but the show was provided with an artificial intelligence-generated English translation in its “Language” section and “AI Beta” option (via IGN). The results…were far from ideal.
Oh, who am I kidding? The dubbing is terrible, with a monotone voice that turns what should have been a heartbreaking and dramatic scene into a parody line reading. Below is the dubbed footage.

However, this wasn't the first time Amazon used AI to dub content on its streaming platform. Hit forbesthe company used this technology for dubbing movies as far back as February 2025. Ah, Silencio de Marcos Tremor, Originally it was Portuguese, but now it's English. The translated dialogue also sparked controversy online due to its monotonous nature.
