Yesterday, I found an announcement from Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg yesterday on Facebook.
Vibes is a new feed within the meta AI app that looks very similar to Instagram reels, except that the content is fully generated.
Vibes is filled with AI videos, and like reels, according to Meta, the feed learns your preferences to provide videos tailored to your interests. Users can cross-post these vibrator videos on Instagram or Facebook as stories and reels.
Meta, my interest is real photos and real videos, not ai. Is there a way to teach algorithms? that? What I really want is my preferences on Instagram and Facebook do not have For AI.
As part of Meta AI Studios, Vibes is touted as “a feed of expressive AI-generated videos from artists and creators.” Creators can remix their own or existing videos from their feed.
For now, Meta's Alexandr Wang says the company is “developing its own model behind the scenes,” but is driven by Midjourney and Black Forest Labs.
In a way, creating a space dedicated to AI videos can prevent something like widespread internet anger when it turns out that there are actually no viral videos of bunny jumping on the trampoline.
Creating spaces just for AI means there is no confusion as to whether something is “real”. If you don't enjoy watching AI, or if you are against intellectual property theft due to training or energy crisis created by AI servers, don't download the Meta AI Studio app.
But it only makes sense if Meta gives users space to watch only real camera-created human-created videos. If AI is getting its own feed, why doesn't Meta have a feed only for cameras and videos created with skilled animation artists?
At the very least, I'd like toggle my Facebook and Instagram settings to tell the algorithm that I don't want to display AI content in my feed. Certainly, some AI generations may slip through the cracks, but meta already distinguishes between content that has AI labels in its metadata. If the technology is there to label AI content, giving users the option to exclude that type of content doesn't look like much of a stretch.
It makes sense to give AI videos to your space, but only if Meta passes the actual video or photo to your space.
