Washington (TNND) – Tilly Norwood, the first artificial intelligence actor in Hollywood, is causing anger in the film industry.
Norwood was launched by Dutch producer Eline van der Belden and produced by a company known for its AI called Xicoia.
Filmmakers and actors are opposed to the creation of AI actors, and the screen actor guild came out in a strong statement denounced it.
“To be clear, 'Tilly Norwood' is not an actor. It's a character generated by a computer program trained in the work of countless professional performers without permission or reward,” the guild said in a statement.
“It's not life experience or emotions that elicit, and from what we see, audiences are not interested in seeing computer-generated content that is not free from human experience,” the statement continued.
Amidst backlash from the Guild and other actors, including Melissa Barrera and Natasha Lyon, van der Werden responded with a statement on Instagram.
To those who expressed their anger at the creation of my AI character, Tilly Norwood, she is not a human successor, she is a creative work, a work of art,” she said.
Van der Beldon added that working in Norwood is an act of “craftsmanship” and is to realize the character.
Norwood has an Instagram account and a statement from Van der Velden has been posted. Currently, our social media accounts have over 40,000 followers.
