Applicants who use artificial intelligence (AI) to create a 600-word essay required for Gambling, Gambling and Lottery Commission (BGLC) Higher Education Grant consideration will be automatically disqualified.
Wendy Robertson, Corporate Affairs and Communications Manager at BGLC, recently issued a warning in an interview with JIS News.
“You can use it to support your research, but write the essay in your own words,” she said.
The BGLC Higher Education Grant is available annually only to Jamaicans and receives $60,000 per person for tuition.
Eligible are full-time undergraduate students under the age of 26 in their first through fourth years.
You must also be enrolled in a local, accredited higher education institution and have a grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.75.
About 325 students will benefit from the sponsorship this year, Robertson said.
“We believe in helping students achieve their higher education goals. We started in 2014 and have helped and spent over 18,000 students to date. The amount is just over $100 million.Education is an area that we believe is very important to our economy,” she said.
