India's employment environment is showing strong momentum in June 2025, aiming to see a 42% increase in the role of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) from the previous year.
The report also highlights India's growing excellence in global services, with employment at the Global Capacity Centre (GCCS) recorded a steady 9% later rise, highlighting the growing footprint of India's technology and services sector.
In addition to this, fresh employment surged a year ago in June 2025, improving the industry-wide entry-level job outlook. The white-collar job segment also witnessed rebounds, registered double-digit growth, and strengthened the overall stability of the labour market.
Formal employment continues on a strong upward path. The Employee Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) reported that it had recorded new members of Rs 20.06 lakh in May 2025.
According to the report of RepublicThis trend resonated in the June 2025 edition of the Naukri Jobspeak report, cited by the department. The employment index has increased to 2,854, reflecting a 10.5% increase in employment across a variety of sectors, cities and experience levels.
Regarding the sector, the insurance industry saw employment rise by 32%, followed by hospitality and travel (21%), BPO and ITES (19%), real estate (16%), oil and gas/electricity (15%), healthcare (11%), and education and FMCG (10%).
Both the manufacturing and services sectors continue to encourage job creation. The employment subindex of the Purchase Manager Index (PMI) continued to expand for 16 consecutive times. The manufacturing industry has strengthened employment growth, while the services sector reported a slight decline from the highs seen in May 2025.
The May 2025 EPFO data also shows that 59.5% of new subscribers are between 18 and 25 years old and 16.6% over 35 years old, with 22.8%, with young first-time job seekers coming into the formal workforce.
The report concludes that a steady increase in formal employment and participation in the workforce is evidence of the government's continued efforts to create more employment opportunities for young people in India.
