In its initial findings, the AAIB said that Engine 2 was capable of revisiting but could not repeatedly reintroduce the fuel in an attempt to recover. He added that the core deceleration in Engine 1 stopped, reversed, and began to progress towards recovery.

While the investigation is underway, the agency investigating the crash further stated that a full analysis of postmortem reports of crew and passengers has been considered to support the results of the aviation survey with engineering expertise.

The first probe suggests that the fuel cutoff switch on Engine 1 will transition from “run” to “cutoff” at 1:38.52pm, followed by Engine 2 making the same transition at 1:38:56pm. This was followed by an increase in exhaust gas temperature (EGT) in both engines, indicating regenerative activity.

“Why did you cut off the fuel?”

The AAIB report also revealed the conversation that took place in the cockpit just before the crash. One of the pilots asked the other, “Why did you cut off?” To this, another pilot who could become a co-pilot replied, “I didn't.”

Engine and Flight Recorder (EAFR) data reveals that both engines' N2 values fell below the minimum idle speed, Reuters reported, citing the AAIB probe on Air India's crash.

The AI 171 reached an altitude of 625 feet and began suddenly descending at a speed of 475 feet per 475 feet, reaching a maximum speed of 180 knots indicating airflow (IAS) at 1:38:42 pm. Soon after this, the fuel cutoff switches on both engines went from “run” to “cutoff” within seconds of each other.
