Generative AI (Gen-AI) is expected to become the primary source of insights for decision-making across businesses by 2025, according to an international survey conducted by generative AI and data specialist Stratio BD.
The study surveyed C-level executives and IT decision makers to understand the scope of Gen-AI adoption and future potential across industries.
The survey found that 75% of IT decision makers plan to increase their use of Gen-AI tools within the next 12 months, and 25% plan to integrate Gen-AI into core business processes within the next six months. This enthusiasm is also reflected by 75% of technology leaders who expressed excitement about increasing the use of Gen-AI within their organizations. However, concerns about the accuracy and security of AI-generated data continue to hinder full-scale adoption.
Stratio BD's in-depth research aims to uncover the current state of Gen-AI adoption across multiple global markets. The survey results show that more than a quarter of respondents plan to incorporate Gen-AI into their core processes within the next six months. Furthermore, a third of decision makers believe their role will be fully integrated with the technology within the next year.
The survey reveals strong optimism among data and business leaders about the transformative potential of Gen-AI: More than three-quarters of those surveyed have a clear understanding of what Gen-AI can bring to their organizations, and two-thirds agree that senior executives are well-informed about how Gen-AI can benefit the business.
Despite this enthusiasm, actual implementation of Gen-AI has yet to catch up with organizational understanding: Only 29% of respondents said Gen-AI is already integrated into core processes. Additionally, more than one in ten IT decision makers said their organization has no plans to fully implement Gen-AI or have no plans to adopt it at all.
Sukar Mundes, CEO and Founder, Stratio BD, said: “The disconnect between organizational understanding of Gen-AI and actual adoption shows that businesses are yet to fully realize the true benefits of Gen-AI. In our research, nearly all surveyed (99%) agree that their organizations are actively missing out by not using Gen-AI, especially when it comes to automation (63%), generating new ideas (59%) and optimizing operations (52%). This is a huge competitive advantage that competitors may soon be able to exploit.”
One notable area highlighted in the survey was Gen-AI's ability to improve business outcomes when querying internal data, particularly in terms of time efficiency: for example, three-fifths of those who don't use Gen-AI were satisfied with the time it takes to complete a data query, while nearly all (92%) of those who use Gen-AI said they were very satisfied or satisfied.
Persistent concerns about security and accuracy remain major obstacles to the more comprehensive adoption of Gen-AI. The most frequently cited issue (38%) was whether the data generated by Gen-AI is accurate enough to help inform decision-making. This was followed by concerns about data quality and accessibility (31%) and concerns about bias and privacy (28%).
Mundez added, “These concerns around privacy and security remain despite AI technologies having made recent breakthroughs in addressing these issues. While concerns remain around the accuracy and quality of data to make informed decisions, our findings highlight the business imperative for enterprise-level solutions that ensure the accuracy and security of Gen-AI-generated data. Those responsible for AI and data insights within their organizations are well aware that without such measures, the transformative potential of this technology to drive business success will not be realized.”
He added, “Stratio BD is at the forefront of this revolution. Our Gen-AI products not only enable businesses to leverage the efficiency benefits of Gen-AI, but also ensure that the data generated by Gen-AI is accurate and can be trusted to inform decision-making. The only obstacle left for business leaders to harness the Gen-AI boom is limited by their collective imagination.”
