- A clear commitment to AI
Half of organizations in the healthcare sector consider the efficiency and optimization of internal processes to be the main reason for starting or intensively using artificial intelligence. This is one of the main conclusions of a sectoral analysis dedicated to this field in the Ascendant report by Minsight (Indra), which, under the title “AI: a revolution in radiology underway”, analyzes the degree of adoption of AI in private and public companies. Subsequently, 41% of companies interviewed cited improved knowledge and patient relationships as their main motivation for adopting artificial intelligence.
The study also evaluates the specific use cases of AI in each sector and identifies which use cases organizations are adopting. In healthcare, 76% of organizations are using AI to enhance medical care and diagnostics, such as automated detection of pneumothorax and pleural effusion, image identification in rheumatology for early detection of arthritis, tumor prediction from images, etc. This is followed by 58% who are using AI to manage hospital resources and operations, such as predicting medicine stock-outs, preparing staff shifts and managing hospital beds.
The use of artificial intelligence for patient data management and analysis (58%), customer insights (40%) and cybersecurity through supplier-enabled tools (33%) also figure prominently. It is worth mentioning that in most of the existing use cases in the industry, artificial intelligence can analyze, draw conclusions and identify patterns. Moreover, 40% of the organizations that participated in the report have third-party solutions that can create content through generative artificial intelligence.
A clear commitment to AI
The report also noted that 60% of organizations revealed that senior executives are clearly and adamantly committed to the use of artificial intelligence, citing the benefits it can bring to business and patient experience. Antonio Martos López, Global Head of Healthcare at Minsait, explains that “today, organizations in this sector are focused on using AI to improve their business operations, including better diagnosis and prevention of diseases, improving patient experience and personalized care.”
In line with this, 40% of the companies interviewed have already established healthcare working groups to explore the potential of artificial intelligence in the healthcare sector. Additionally, AI is also becoming a priority at the budgetary level: 60% of companies that participated in the report said their organization is dedicating necessary resources to AI development, and 70% expect AI to increase significantly within two years.
The fifth edition of Mincite's “Ascendant Digital Maturity 2024 Report” addresses the status and extent of adoption of artificial intelligence by companies and public administrations. To this end, it analyzed information provided by more than 900 organizations in 15 different sectors of activity in Spain and other countries.
