Oracle's low-code development platform now has artificial intelligence built into it, making it faster and easier to build enterprise applications through natural language. First, there's the APEX AI Assistant, which helps developers write valid SQL statements, freeing them from mundane coding tasks. Second, the new Create App Assistant creates application blueprints, allowing developers to focus their energy on functionality rather than the underlying code. Finally, Oracle has added conversational AI dialogs that developers can add to their apps, allowing end users to “talk” to the software for a richer in-app experience.
These AI assistants are currently available within Oracle APEX.
“As a developer and someone who writes SQL every day, I know how difficult it can be to remember table names, column names, and rarely used syntax,” said Mike Hitchua, senior vice president of software development at Oracle, in a statement. “Having an AI assistant that can identify column names in context, combine them, and generate complex syntax for you is truly a game changer.”
Developers can use the APEX AI Assistant to create valid SQL statements with natural language user prompts, build applications through conversational interfaces provided for SQL, server-side JavaScript, and PL/SQL, and get context-aware assistance to check for syntax errors and debug.

Oracle APEX (also known as Oracle Application Express) debuted in 2019. Created by Hichwa, the product is a free, fully supported feature of the company's Oracle Database, and is designed for people who want to minimize the amount of code required to create new applications. He told VentureBeat that since its launch, “we've seen a lot of customers develop feature-rich APEX applications to support thousands of users with very small development teams. Many of our customers were using APEX to develop their internal applications.” [line of business]It's a level application.”
In fact, Oracle claims that Oracle APEX enables developers to build and deploy enterprise applications “20 times faster with 100 times less code,” with over 850,000 developers worldwide developing more than 21 million applications. Hichwa reveals that Oracle APEX is used in financial services, healthcare, transportation, education, and many other industries to “support a diverse range of applications in areas such as clinical trials and equipment leasing management.”
“The biggest reason customers keep adopting Oracle APEX is because it helps them stay agile and saves them time and effort by allowing them to build applications in weeks, or even months, compared to traditional coding techniques,” said Hichwa. “With Oracle handling everything on the backend, they no longer have to deal with vulnerabilities and bugs in their code base, significantly reducing the technical debt that companies incur when modernizing their applications or building new ones.”
