Report: An astonishing 92% of all enterprise endpoints are not ready for modern AI apps

Absolute’s Cyber Resilience Risk Index 2024 shows that organizations are woefully unprepared to face the “AI wave.”

A new report from cybersecurity firm Absolute finds that the majority of organizations around the world are woefully unprepared to deal with AI applications and the security risks that come with them.

According to the Absolute Security Cyber Resilience Risk Index 2024, 92% of all endpoints monitored by the company, or PCs, are unable to take advantage of AI applications due to limited RAM. Companies that want to make their entire system AI-enabled must undergo a massive upgrade process across the organization, which can introduce a number of security threats.

At the same time, organizations may need to consider hardware upgrades, which also delays patching critical systems they currently use. Despite patches being available faster than ever, most industries are weeks or even months behind when it comes to patching their systems.

The two worst sectors in this regard are education and government, with critical patches taking an average of 119 and 82 days, respectively.

Even more alarming, 14% of devices do not have endpoint protection installed, and even when endpoint protection is present, it is not working effectively on 24% of devices.

Christy Wyatt, CEO of Absolute Security, said the simplest defense strategies are being ignored.

“As an industry, we are intently focused on the inevitable attack to come, the breach waiting to happen, and the disruption that will occur around the next corner. Not enough attention is being paid.
Simple strategies can significantly improve your resiliency, helping you stay resilient to vulnerabilities and recover quickly. “The risks continue to rise as we face the urgent need to deploy AI and other innovations to remain competitive,” Wyatt said in a statement.

“Cyber resilience is a paradigm that goes beyond traditional cybersecurity. It is about ensuring that an organization's core digital operations can withstand and quickly recover from cyber attacks, technical failures, intentional tampering, and new developments. It is important.”
