Artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming an important part of learning and working in India as it helps students, teachers, software developers, and other professionals learn more efficiently, save time, and work better. According to the Anthropic Economy Index report, people in India are using AI for many activities such as homework, education, coding, resume writing, and professional work.
According to the report, 19.3% of Claude.ai conversations in India are related to teaching and learning. Homework-related questions alone accounted for 7.9% of these interactions. Many Indians also use Claude for content creation and writing tasks, such as creating resumes, writing social media posts, and preparing marketing materials, The Hindu reported.
The report found that Indian users rely on Claude more than the global average in areas such as mathematics and computer science theory, AI application development, document editing, and web development. For example, the use of artificial intelligence in mathematics and computer science theory in India is twice the global average, and the development of AI applications is 1.8 times higher.
Anthropic’s report also shows that people are starting to use AI for more advanced everyday tasks, not just asking simple questions. For example, news-related searches are most common around 6 a.m., business email requests are most common in the morning, and recipe-related questions are most common around 6 p.m. Personal usage of AI rose from 35% to nearly 50% over the weekend, with people using AI for emotional support, health-related information, and investment guidance.

According to an OpenAI report released in February 2026, young users between 18 and 24 years old account for almost half of ChatGPT users in India, compared to 33% globally. The report cited coding and education as two of the most common reasons Indians use apps.
The Anthropic Economy Index report is based on a privacy-focused survey of 9,700 randomly selected Claude users from various countries.
