Google has added a personal AI avatar feature to its Vids service. From now on, users will be able to create a digital copy of their appearance and voice and use it in generated videos. The company announced this in an official announcement.
This feature is based on the Gemini Omni multimodal model. You can create videos using text queries, reference images, and personal avatars at the same time. Generated content receives a hidden SynthID tag.
Omni also lets you edit videos you’ve already created or shot on your smartphone using a series of text commands. Models can change the background, adjust lighting and colors, style images, or remove unwanted sounds without having to regenerate the entire clip.
This update transforms Vid from a service for creating work presentations to a more complete video editor. Personal avatars can be used for educational videos, corporate appeals, instructions, etc. without having to constantly record the person on camera.
Avatar is available only in English to users 18 years and older. This feature is initially not available in the European Economic Area, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. Ukraine is not included in the list of excluded regions, but Google does not specifically mention it.
The gradual rollout will begin on July 16th for immediate release domains and August 5th for scheduled release domains and may take up to 15 days. This feature is available on Google Workspace Business and Enterprise plans, Education Plus plans, and Google AI Pro and Ultra plans. Organization admins can turn off personal avatars completely.
