July 16, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan is set to become a founding member of the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization (WAICO) and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar will travel to Shanghai, China on Thursday to attend the signing ceremony of the organization during a two-day visit.
During this visit, Pakistan will officially join WAICO after Mohammad Ishaq Dar signs the establishment agreement. According to APP, he will also participate in the opening ceremony of the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) and the High-Level Conference on Global AI Governance.
On the sidelines of the conference, Mohammad Ishaq Dar will hold bilateral talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and meet with other parties to discuss matters of common interest.
He will present Pakistan’s perspective on strengthening international cooperation in artificial intelligence, with a particular focus on the priorities and development needs of the Global South.
The Deputy Prime Minister will also highlight the importance of closing the global AI gap, promoting equitable access to AI technologies, strengthening capacity building, and ensuring the benefits of artificial intelligence contribute to sustainable development and shared prosperity for all.
