Elsevier has announced significant expansions to LeapSpace, its research-focused AI workspace, introducing a set of agent features designed to help researchers complete a wider range of tasks across their research workflows.
The latest enhancements aim to accelerate discovery, enhance evidence evaluation, and support critical thinking while maintaining transparency and researcher control. According to Elsevier, LeapSpace is built on more than 20 million full-text peer-reviewed articles and books, plus content from more than 1,000 publishing partners and more than 100 million scientific records indexed in Scopus.
According to the company, the platform differs from general-purpose AI tools in that it provides output based on peer-reviewed literature, provides traceable citations, and allows researchers to verify and approve any recommended changes.
Elsevier reports that LeapSpace is already being used by thousands of researchers around the world, saving 97% of their reporting time and more than half saving more than 50% of their research time. The latest update expands support for scientific publications, an area that researchers have identified as a priority for AI assistance.
New features introduced include:
- writing coach – An encrypted workspace where researchers can create and revise manuscripts with AI assistance, with full control over proposed changes.
- claim radar – Validation tools that assess how well claims match the published literature and highlight supporting evidence, contradictions, and areas where consensus is uncertain.
- comparison table – Ability to extract evidence from the literature into structured comparative tables based on criteria defined by researchers.
- Upload extension file – Support for uploading Word documents allows researchers to work with a wider range of materials without converting formats.
- Export references – Enables export of references directly into documents, supporting literature review and citation management workflows.
Commenting on the announcement, Judy Verseth, Dean of Academic and Government, said: Elsevier“As LeapSpace now supports more tasks across the research workflow, and as we work with more publishers, the trusted science content that LeapSpace utilizes continues to grow. Researchers say this means stronger scientific arguments, allowing them to find the evidence they need faster, resulting in greater trust. This is important because the stakes in science are high.”
The new Agent Workflow feature begins rolling out today and marks Elsevier’s latest move to embed AI deeper into the research process, with a focus on transparency, verifiable evidence, and research integrity.
