new delhi [India]June 24 (ANI): Amazon CEO Andy Jassy, on his first visit to India since taking the helm of the global e-commerce and cloud giant, met Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday and laid out plans for deeper technology integration between the company and India’s most industrialized state.
The high-level meeting served as a strategic forum to discuss Amazon’s long-term commitment to Maharashtra, which is the “lynchpin” of its India operations. The discussion bridged the gap between policy and technology, focusing on how Amazon’s investments in AI, cloud infrastructure, and logistics can accelerate the state’s goal of doubling its economy by 2030.
Amazon said in a press release that Maharashtra is home to AWS’s first Indian infrastructure region, with growing technology and operations talent in places like Mumbai and Pune.
“Maharashtra is home to some of Amazon’s most important operations in India, including AWS’s first India Infrastructure Region and growing technology and operations talent in Mumbai, Pune and more,” the company said.
The conversation also addressed export support for local sellers and manufacturers, as well as skills programs to prepare young professionals for the jobs of the future.
According to Amazon, Jassi highlighted how the company supports Maharashtra’s digital economy through multiple verticals. “The conversation covered how Amazon’s investments in AI, cloud infrastructure, e-commerce, and logistics are helping businesses in the state grow, attract new customers, and compete globally,” Amazon said in a statement.
Mr. Jassy also talked about how Amazon is supporting the state through export assistance and skills development efforts aimed at developing talent for the jobs of the future.
The company pointed out that Maharashtra is also the hub of Amazon’s entertainment operations in India. “Maharashtra is also the hub of Amazon’s entertainment operations in India, with Prime Video’s creative operations based in Mumbai,” Amazon said.
Prime Video continues to commission original stories from India and collaborate with the state’s film and creative communities to bring India’s stories to more than 240 countries around the world.
During his visit to India, Jassi also met with top Indian business leaders and discussed AI and innovation.
