(WO) — Engineering Consultant longitude has launched a new real-time mooring line tension monitoring system for floating production units and secured its first commercial deployment with an undisclosed South American operator.
system known as Proper live load (PLL)is designed to continuously monitor FPSO mooring line tension and vessel movement, allowing operators to identify potential integrity issues before they lead to operational interruptions or equipment damage.
According to Longitude, traditional mooring monitoring programs often rely on routine inspections and aging load cell systems, which limit real-time visibility into mooring performance. The new platform combines vessel location data, mooring analysis models and predictive analytics to provide continuous monitoring and warning capabilities.

“We address this gap by providing an always-on monitoring platform that combines real-time sensor data with predictive analytics and comprehensive integrity management, enabling operators to move from reactive to proactive mooring management,” he said. Ikaro ReisLongitude’s naval architect and marine engineer.
The system utilizes onboard position sensors and integrates vessel motion data, mooring line tension calculations, and deflection monitoring. Additional features include alarm management, loss of mooring line detection, and 6 degrees of freedom vessel movement monitoring.
According to Longitude, the platform can also incorporate wind, wave and current data, along with historical operating records and machine learning models, to predict vessel and mooring system behavior under anticipated operating conditions. The system is designed to support proactive maintenance planning through real-time fatigue tracking and tension history analysis.
The company recently signed a one-year agreement with an undisclosed South American oil and gas operator to install a PLL system on one of its FPSOs.
“PLL represents an important step in the development of new mooring monitoring technology, combining our deep expertise in shipbuilding and marine engineering with advanced digital tools.” Guilherme RealDirector of the Americas at Longitude. “Its first deployment validates our vision of a fully integrated, intelligent surveillance platform for the offshore industry.”
Longitude is ABL Group and recently integrated Proper Marine, a Brazil-based naval and ocean engineering specialist, into its operations.
