Paris, June 15, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Shield AI and Destinus have successfully demonstrated autonomous joint strike capabilities with the Destinus Hornet, an interception system designed for counter-UAS missions against loitering weapons, drone swarms, and large-scale hostile unmanned threats. The test, conducted in Segovia, Spain, validated Shield AI’s Hivemind AI maneuvering capabilities to support autonomous response coordination and in-flight adaptation in contested airspace, and demonstrated how this capability can help operators respond more quickly to large-scale unmanned threats.
Shield AI and Destinus successfully demonstrated autonomous joint strike capabilities with the Destinus Hornet, an interception system designed for anti-UAS missions against loitering weapons, drone swarms, and large-scale hostile unmanned threats.
This milestone builds on two previous integration phases. Phase 1 established Hivemind platform control on Hornet within two months, and Phase 2 demonstrated in-flight V-BAT and Hornet multiplatform teaming. At this stage, Operation Segovia executed the complete operational concept developed for the Destinus Ruta, a low-cost turbojet attack platform designed for terrain-following penetration in GNSS-denied and contested environments. Hornet served as the initial integration baseline for the entire Destinus family due to its shared flight control architecture. This is intended to accelerate the integration of Hivemind across additional Destinus systems and reduce technical risks ahead of the planned migration to Ruta.
“Autonomous systems must be able to sense threats, adapt, and operate at the edge, especially in competitive environments where direct command and control is reduced or denied,” said Christian Gutierrez, senior vice president of Hivemind at Shield AI. “What we demonstrated at Segovia is a repeatable, combat-ready autonomous capability that closes the reconnaissance-to-attack loop at the speed the threat demands.”
In Phase 3, a complete mission sequence was implemented in line with Ruta’s operational concept, including autonomous support mission planning by a ground control station, radio testing, autonomous terrain following, in-flight target updates, and autonomous terminal maneuver execution based on operator commands. The next stage will be to migrate these capabilities to Ukraine’s Destinus Ruta platform, enabling coordinated attack operations between V-BAT and multiple Ruta systems. This subsequent evaluation will focus on repeatability, reliability, and integration with existing operator command and control architectures.
“The Destinus platform operates on our proprietary flight control architecture and has been validated by Hivemind to integrate third-party autonomy without relinquishing system design authority,” said Tim Moser, Destinus Chief Technology Officer. “Repeatable integration, clear command authority, and field-enabled capabilities are how we move autonomy from demonstration to something operators can trust in the field.”
Destinus Hornet is a multi-role autonomous platform capable of counter-UAS, attack, reconnaissance, data relay, and security operations. The Hornet system forms part of a broader layered air defense architecture designed to protect high-value sites and critical infrastructure.
Hivemind AI pilots enable platforms to sense, decide, and operate independently under established command authority and within operator-defined parameters. Unlike traditional autopilots that cannot deviate from pre-planned routes, Hivemind dynamically changes mission plans to respond to unexpected situations, avoid obstacles, and perform complex tasks safely and effectively.
Shield AI will be on display at Eurosatory in Hall 5A, Stand A276, while Destinus will also be on display in Hall 4, Stand E255.
