Global study finds widening gap between AI ambitions and workforce readiness

AI News

  • 45% of leaders expect AI agents to be integrated into their workflows within a year. Only 30% of workers say the same
  • Only 22% of leaders are highly confident that their organization is developing future-ready capabilities within its workforce
  • Only 36% of leaders say their talent strategy clearly demonstrates how AI creates opportunities for employees, and only 39% directly involve employees in redesigning jobs.

zurich, May 21, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — A global survey of 2,000 executives from 13 countries by Adecco Group found that while organizations are accelerating AI adoption, many lack the leadership clarity, employee trust, and capability building needed to turn adoption into measurable outcomes. Respondents oversee more than 8.6 million employees and provide senior leaders’ perspectives on how AI is reshaping strategy, skills, and organizational readiness.

The report, “The Human Premium: Leadership Beyond Algorithms,” shows that 45% of business leaders expect AI agents to be integrated into their workflows within the next 12 months. However, only 36% say their company’s talent strategy clearly demonstrates that AI creates opportunities for employees, pointing to a widening gap between AI ambitions and workforce readiness.

Dennis Macuel, CEO of Adecco Group, said:

“AI may move at the speed of software, but organizational trust moves at the speed of humans. Companies that ignore that gap will struggle to turn pilots into performance. The winners will be those that combine technology with transparency, accountability, and a clear path for people to adapt. Business leaders have a fundamental responsibility to ensure that people and technology work in harmony.”
