Tech company Meta on Wednesday began a sweeping reorganization that will reduce its workforce and accelerate its transition to artificial intelligence.
in Internal memo The parent company of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp announced last month that it would lay off about 10% of its workforce, or about 8,000 people, in May. Company spokeswoman Erica Sackin confirmed to NPR on Wednesday that affected employees have been notified.

An additional 7,000 Meta employees will have their roles changed as part of the AI pivot, according to people familiar with the situation who were not authorized to speak publicly about the matter.
“To further focus on AI, we are moving 7,000 people to teams focused on AI projects,” the person said.
Sackin declined to comment on which teams grew or shrunk as a result of the restructuring.
