Machinex’s AI platform enables system-wide optimization for MRFs

Machine Learning

Machinex announced MIND, an integrated AI platform for waste separation and recycling operations, at IFAT Munich 2026.

MIND goes beyond single-machine intelligence to deliver system-wide optimization across the material recovery facility (MRF), integrating computer vision, machine learning, and real-time decision-making into a single closed-loop platform.

How MIND works

MIND integrates computer vision and machine learning to detect, classify, and categorize materials in real time. As a closed-loop intelligence system, it continuously learns from live material streams, allowing the MRF to adapt to changing inputs while maintaining throughput, purity, and consistency.

Key features include materials analysis, real-time operational decisions, system-wide optimization, and advanced reporting for traceability and compliance.

“The future of recycling is not just automation, but intelligent systems. For years, intelligence has been applied one machine at a time. With MIND, we extend that intelligence into an integrated system that spans multiple units and goes beyond individual equipment,” said Chris Horn, CEO of Machinex Technologies. “Operators have the control and insight they need to manage complexity, improve performance, and make smarter decisions in real time.”

Introducing MIND AirPulse

Alongside the platform launch, Machinex will introduce MIND AirPulse, an AI-powered pneumatic sorting system designed for high-speed material recovery and advanced quality control.

Based on MIND’s real-time decisions, AirPulse delivers more than 20 times the sorting rate of manual sorters, with accuracy and responsiveness that scales with the rest of the system.

MIND is integrated across the Machinex AI-powered equipment family, including:

Built for MRF complexity

Developed and implemented in operational recycling facilities since 2019, MIND addresses the growing demands faced by modern MRFs, including increased material stream complexity, stricter purity requirements, and expanded traceability and compliance obligations. This platform provides operators with centralized control and actionable data across the entire system, not just individual machines.

“Everything we do starts with understanding our customers’ realities and how we can help them achieve their recycling goals,” said Pierre Paré, president and owner of Machinex Group. “MIND brings together a 55-year heritage of innovation into a single intelligent platform designed to simplify operations and improve performance. This strengthens our commitment to delivering performance you can trust and being a trusted partner to our customers.”

As recycling operations face increased complexity, increased purity requirements, and increased demands for traceability and compliance, MIND provides tools to help operators stay ahead, providing greater control, increased efficiency, and actionable insights across the entire system.
