iZotope has announced the latest version of its audio editing and restoration suite RX.
A favorite among film, mastering, and post-production professionals, RX specializes in tools that allow you to fix and adjust old or poorly recorded audio sources. RX 12 advances further into this niche by introducing several new tools for audio reprocessing, as well as restructuring some of the software’s existing elements with improved machine learning.
According to iZotope, “Whether you’re releasing an album, mixing dialogue, or editing a podcast, RX enables you to achieve pristine audio quickly. From blockbuster movies and chart-topping tracks to home recordings and everything in between, RX offers a vast collection of plugins and editing tools you can trust to rescue any audio.”

The most interesting addition is the scene rebalance module, designed specifically for use in audiovisual production. Scene Rebalance uses AI-assisted separation to split movie and TV scenes into individual dialogue, music, and effects tracks that can be edited and rebalanced individually.
This takes advantage of RX’s new Stem View, which is also present in RX’s other isolation plugins. This view allows you to split your audio file into component parts via Scene Rebalance or the existing Music Rebalance and Dialogue Isolate modules, allowing you to process each stem using a full suite of RX tools.
The Music Rebalance and Dialogue Isolate tools have also been enhanced. Both are now available as standalone plugins and can be used in both real-time and offline modes. iZotope says all of these separation tools benefit from improved neural nets, resulting in cleaner stem quality.
RX 12 also introduces a new Trim Silence feature that automatically identifies and removes periods of silence, aimed at improving editing speed for those working with conversations, podcasts, audiobook recordings, and more.
Beyond these additions, iZotope says RX 12 also incorporates various workflow and UI improvements, including a smoother, updated interface with larger spectrograms, a new module search feature, and a resizable history panel.
As before, RX 12 will be available in three tiers containing different collections of tools. The top-of-the-line RX Advanced has a full suite of over 50 modules and is priced at $1399. RX Standard is more focused on music producers than post-production and costs $399.
The most affordable entry point, RX Elements, includes six “must-have” plugins centered around RX’s intelligent repair assistant features and costs $99.
iZotope also says, “With RX 12, iZotope has redesigned its loyalty pricing to offer even greater discounts to users using newer versions of RX.”
