UFC star Renato Moicano is not happy with CEO Dana White defending the promotion’s recent use of AI for marketing purposes.
UFC CEO Dana White and the promotion made a fuss when they announced their latest promotion ahead of UFC Freedom 250 at the White House.
During the UFC 327 broadcast, a pre-fight promo aired featuring Ilia Topuria, Alex Pereira, and several other fighters scheduled to appear in the unprecedented event. The problem is that all the fighter jets in the ad were generated by artificial intelligence.
For this reason, many criticized White and the UFC for refusing to hire staff directly to produce pre-fight promotional materials, and questioned the potential for future use of AI in the promotion. In response, White dismissed the criticism, saying, “I can’t say ***” about critics of the UFC’s controversial promotion.
One UFC star, Renato Moicano, took a surprising stance against his employers and their use of AI.
Renato Moicano: UFC’s use of AI in promotions is ‘disrespectful to fans’
in a recent interview ariel helwani showMoicano didn’t hold back when asked about the controversial UFC White House promotion.
“I saw it and I didn’t like it at all. The UFC wouldn’t be too happy for me to say that, but I didn’t like it. I think it’s disrespectful to the fans, because I’m a fan myself,” Moicano said.
“If you can’t put Alex Pereira or Ilia Topria on a plane and put them in front of the White House in Washington, D.C., I think that’s sloppy. I don’t like using AI in my work at all. I’m not saying it’s not useful for some work, but it’s not useful for content.” [purposes].
“People can tell it’s sloppy. It’s rotting everyone’s brains right now.”
Moicano is fresh off a win over Chris Duncan at UFC Apex and is aiming to return to the Octagon this summer.
