Gujarat GST Department uses advanced AI model to digitally track ITC fraud
of gujarat government I plan to use artificial intelligence (AI) to stop GST Input Tax Credit (ITC) fraud causing losses of hundreds of billions of rupees. These scams include fraudulent claims such as: tax credit. The sheer number of transactions makes it extremely difficult to check them all manually. So the government wants to use AI and machine learning (ML) to detect suspicious activity.
To make this possible, The Commercial Tax Department is affiliated with Bhaskaracharya National Institute of Space Applications and Geo-Informatics (BISAG-N). around it 29 billion ITC-related transactions are recorded with the state annually, making manual verification nearly impossible. New AI systems can help identify fake transactions and fraudulent businesses more efficiently.
BISAG-N has already developed an extensive language model (LLM), currently being tested. Once fine-tuned, all ITC transactions will be checked through this AI model. The system alerts the department whenever it finds a transaction or entity that appears suspicious or fraudulent.
Officials believe this AI-based system will help the government in its efforts. more powerful action Against ITC fraud. The model not only detects fraud by businesses but also alerts to fraud involving government officials, as some employees have been found to be involved in such fraud. Once fully ready, governments can use this AI system more aggressively to Prevent financial loss.
