“I’ve actually been looking at the comment sections of these videos for a long time, and it doesn’t seem like it’s a bot. I’ve clicked on people’s profiles, and these are real profiles, with thousands of followers, and no signs of inorganic activity,” Maddox says. “People just like it.”
But even if the views and engagement are genuine, that doesn’t mean this content will be profitable. Maddox noted that because these accounts are so new, they likely haven’t yet been enrolled in TikTok’s Creator Fund or other forms of social media ad revenue sharing. That’s because these accounts typically require application and a certain number of views. But the earning potential is huge, Maddox says, and you can earn thousands of dollars per video if it gets millions of views.

The predecessors of this AI fruit content include Italian Brainrot characters such as Ballerina Cappuccina and Bombardino Crocodilo, as well as the Elsagate controversy. But for these AI Fruit miniseries, which attempt to follow stories across multiple segments and episodes, the most obvious similarities actually feel like the microdramas, vertical short scripted series that America’s big tech companies are starting to invest in more and more of. Similar to AI Fruits, these are minute-long episodic shows aimed at boosting performance on social media and ultimately directing viewers to paywalled sequels.
Los Angeles actor Ben L. Cohen, who has appeared in about 15 of these vertical microdramas, sees at least one commonality between the AI fruit drama and his show. In both cases, “there is a lot of violence against women.” They also try to pack as much drama as possible into these short clips, giving them attention-grabbing titles in the style of “Alpha Werewolf Daddy Got Me Pregnant,” Cohen says.
“I think people are drawn to it by seeing that unpleasant, absurd, cartoonish atmosphere. It’s cartoonish abuse, but it’s still abuse.”
Vertical micro-drama acting jobs still exist in Los Angeles, but that’s not true of all acting jobs today. Cohen spoke with others working in the industry about how AI is already being incorporated into video and could threaten the human presence in clickbait content. After all, it’s much cheaper and faster to mass produce episodes of AI fruit than actual productions. It also begs the question: Are some people going to prefer the AI series over the works that inspired it? The answer is already yes.
“What do you think? love island It will surpass AI fruit love island? asked the TikToker, who has over 70,000 followers, and claimed that the AI fruit version is more appealing than the actual reality show. She deleted the video as she started receiving backlash, but others agreed with her.
“I think TikTok was definitely a big part of that,” Cohen says of viewers’ shorter attention spans and desire for compressed, sometimes AI-generated drama. “It’s no wonder people are interested in a one-minute clip and then think, ‘Oh, let’s watch another one-minute clip.’ You’re not committing to a whole 20-minute episode, heaven forbid. Or 40 minutes. Or an hour. Just watch one minute.”
