On March 24, the South Korean Ministry of Science, Information and Communication announced that it will be inviting applications for the “GovTech Startup AI Testing and Commercialization Support Program”.

GovTech refers to services that introduce cutting-edge digital technologies such as AI and big data into the public sector to improve public services, solve regional and social problems, and innovate public infrastructure.

The target group is a consortium between GovTech companies established within seven years and demand organizations such as central government agencies, local governments, and public institutions. The department plans to support about 18 projects with a total of 3.24 billion won. This year we will focus on securing public sector references and strengthening our ability to enter global markets. We also offer customized programs depending on your stage of development, including market entry, investment attraction, revenue generation, and international expansion.

This program, which started in 2024, has achieved results such as winning the CES Innovation Award for two consecutive years and raising a cumulative total of 9 billion won.

Choi Dong-won (최동원), director of the ministry’s AI infrastructure policy department, said he hopes the program will give startups an opportunity to secure references in the public sector and become a catalyst for Korea’s public sector AI leap forward.
