Obtaining Quotient AI to power AI agent evaluation and reinforcement learning

Machine Learning

Databricks announced that it has acquired Quotient AI, a startup focused on AI agent evaluation and reinforcement learning technology. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The acquisition is aimed at improving how organizations deploy, monitor, and optimize AI agents in production environments. Databricks plans to integrate Quotient’s technology across its platform to enhance agent AI capabilities and enable continuous evaluation and learning of enterprise AI systems.

Quotient AI was founded by engineers who previously worked on improving the quality of GitHub Copilot. The company has built a platform designed to analyze complete traces of AI agent behavior in production environments. By monitoring these traces, the system can detect problems such as hallucinations, failures in reasoning, and incorrect use of tools.

The platform transforms these signals into structured evaluation datasets and reward signals that can be used to improve agent performance through reinforcement learning. This process allows organizations to not only monitor agent behavior but also systematically improve performance over time.

Databricks said the technology powers several core products on its platform.

  1. Genie is an AI agent that enables employees to interact with and analyze corporate data through natural language.
  2. Genie Code is an autonomous AI agent designed to help data teams plan, build, and manage data engineering, machine learning, and analytics workflows.
  3. Agent Bricks is a system that allows organizations to build and scale high-quality AI agents using their own data.

As enterprises increasingly deploy AI agents in critical business workflows, the need for reliable assessment and improvement systems continues to grow. Databricks says Quotient’s technology, combined with AI research and platform capabilities, will enable organizations to build agents that not only work in production, but also continually improve based on real-world usage.

The Quotient AI team joins Databricks as the company continues to develop tools to build, deploy, and optimize AI-driven systems at scale.
