Google is gearing up for a major overhaul of AI Studio’s Build feature, and there are signs it could be released as early as next week. This update is expected to transform AI Studio’s Vibe coding environment from a simple app prototyping tool to a more capable platform for building full-stack multiplayer applications with proper authentication and deeper Google service integration. Logan Kilpatrick, head of developer relations for Google’s AI products, recently publicly teased upcoming changes.

At the core of this update is a new authentication layer that allows developers to add sign-in and user management directly within apps built with AI Studio. This is expected to tie in with Firebase, but that connection is not yet fully clear.

We have a dedicated integration tab to support OAuth and external API connections through your secret management system. This addresses one of the biggest limitations of AI Studio’s current build experience: the inability to create apps or access third-party services that require a user account.

TestingCatalog first reported on early signs of this Firebase integration in late January, when references to native database and OAuth support started appearing in the AI Studio interface.

Framework support has also expanded far beyond the current JavaScript and React options. With the addition of Next.js and a few additional frameworks, AI Studio approaches the flexibility offered by Firebase Studio, which already supports Next.js, Angular, Flutter, and Go. This is important because developers are looking for a broader choice of frameworks to fit their existing workflows and operational requirements.

Google has steadily positioned AI Studio as the fastest adoption stage for building with Gemini models, and this update fits right into that strategy. Since Google I/O 2025, the company has invested in making AI Studio a place where developers can go from prompt to app deployment with minimal effort.
The addition of authentication, external integration, and framework versatility moves AI Studio from a prototyping place to a viable development platform, benefiting indie developers and small teams looking to ship real applications without having to manually juggle multiple Google Cloud services.
