leonard eye unveils new brand identity and launches creative engine APImarks the first major product and positioning update since joining the company. Kamba.
This move expands Leonardo beyond a generative AI platform for creators into a developer- and enterprise-ready foundation for building AI-powered creative workflows.
Canva co-founder and chief product officer Cameron Adams wrote on LinkedIn that the launch is a “huge milestone” for the team.
“When we welcomed Leonardo.Ai to the Canva family, it wasn’t just about technology. It was about finding a team that was passionate about the same thing we were: enabling people to bring their ideas to life in ways they couldn’t imagine before.”
He added, “APIs are the real game changer here. Leonardo is turning world-class models and creative workflow tools into a foundation that any developer or business can leverage to accelerate their goals and products.”
Creative Engine API is for developers and enterprises
The newly released Creative Engine API allows developers and businesses to integrate Leonardo’s generative AI models and workflow tools directly into their platforms and products.
Leonardo said APIs transform internal models and creative systems into a programmable foundation. The company positions this move to enable broader industry adoption, especially for teams building AI-powered creative products at scale.
With this update, Leonardo moves from simply being a creator-first interface to becoming an infrastructure for other businesses operating in the design, media, gaming, and marketing environments.
New identity suggests positioning of “Modern Renaissance”
Alongside the release of the API, Leonardo introduced a new brand identity under the theme “Yours to Create.” The company says the refresh reflects its belief that creativity “lives in all of us and belongs to all of us.”
Co-founder and CEO JJ Fiasson said: “The conversation around AI is focused on what the technology can do. We are focusing on the potential of human creativity and designing tools that unlock what millions of creators can do every day.”
Leonardo describes his platform as a “creator-first generative AI platform” that supports users from early concept development to large-scale asset production.
“Much of creating with AI is experimentation. The best breakthroughs often come from experimenting with new tools until you find something unexpected. That’s why we designed an adaptable visual language, our way of reflecting today’s flexible and iterative ways of creating,” said Dwayne Coe, Head of Creative.
The rebrand was developed in partnership with design firm Koto and includes a new motion system, typefaces and iconography aimed at reflecting what the company calls a “modern renaissance” of creativity.
Strategic collaboration with Canva
Leonardo says its evolved position reflects its place within the Canva ecosystem. The company sees “Yours to Create” as an extension of Canva’s broader mission to empower people to design. Since being acquired by Canva, Leonardo has continued to operate as a standalone generative AI platform while contributing technology to Canva’s growing AI feature set.
The launch of a public API signals a deeper infrastructure effort and puts Leonardo in a competitive space where generative AI platforms are moving from end-user tools to underlying systems for third-party builders.
For EdTech and creative technology observers, this development reflects a broader pattern. AI creative platforms are increasingly targeting enterprise integration and developer ecosystems, not just individual creators.
