A one-day workshop will be held at CWI on March 30, 2026. Imet-NLa newly established Dutch research network on AI for weather and climate. The topic of this meeting is Scientific machine learning and uncertainty quantification.
The use of AI techniques for weather and climate applications is developing very rapidly. Just a few years ago, fully data-driven weather forecasting using AI/ML techniques seemed like a distant possibility. AI-based weather forecasting systems have now reached a level of predictive skill that in many ways rivals state-of-the-art physically-based weather forecasting models. More broadly, researchers are rapidly leveraging the potential of AI to advance weather and climate modeling and analysis.
Reflecting these developments, the AIMET-NL network was launched in 2025 by a group of researchers based in the Netherlands. The workshop at CWI will bring together the research community to highlight the important connections between scientific machine learning and the adjacent research topics of quantifying uncertainty.
Please use this link to register and confirm your attendance no later than Monday, March 23rd. The registration fee for the workshop is 20 euros. In addition, due to the capacity of the venue, the number of participants is limited, so we recommend that you apply early.
The tentative schedule for the workshop is as follows.
