Digital broker Konkrd uses AI to change the way you buy health insurance

Machine Learning

Konkrd, the digital broker co-founded by former iSelect executives, is complete Australia’s first fully autonomous health insurance distribution.

Purchases were processed end-to-end by Konkrd’s agent AI platform.

Stakeholders completed a quick needs analysis on the Konkrd platform, received customized policy recommendations, and progressed through final sale.

Co-founder and executive chairman Scott Wilson said Konkrd’s autonomous sales infrastructure (ASI) runs a rigorous, predefined workflow designed with health insurance experts and compliance experts, with every step audited, scored in real-time, and reviewed under human escalation.

“Importantly, this is not a demo; real customers are buying real health insurance through a system that reads the fine print, interprets the rules and operates within an Australian regulatory setting,” he said.

“Agent AI is finally delivering on that promise, eliminating guesswork, reducing red tape, and giving people decisions they can trust.”

Wilson said the sale is a major milestone for a regulated industry, where “AI-enabled” still means manual intervention and controlled sandbox conditions.

Health insurance remains a complex household decision, with policy disclosure statements typically running 20 pages long.

Mr Wilson said most comparison tools often leave customers interpreting exclusions, waiting periods and limitations in isolation, leading to overpayments and inadequate coverage.

From insurance to energy

Konkrd’s ASI enables digital brokers to provide expert-level clarity without the risk of fatigue, delay, or compliance.

“People don’t want another chatbot. They want clarity,” Wilson says.

“If a system can cut through the nonsense, read the fine print, and show you a cover that actually fits, that’s where agent AI comes in.”

The health insurance sale is part of Konkrd’s broader ambition to leverage AI to help those responsible for time-consuming life management for insurance and other service providers such as energy, auto, home, communications, travel, pets, and ultimately mortgages, life insurance, pensions, and more.

The ASI architecture uses reusable workflows to interpret complex product rules, compare across providers, and keep consumers updated as products and prices change.

Konkrd is also developing a secure digital wallet that allows Australians to store all their insurance policy documents in one place and receive AI-powered, plain language answers about their cover.
