Lahore: Punjab Police on Thursday warned citizens against sharing, retweeting, reposting, forwarding and promoting false, fabricated and misleading news and content on social media, warning that such acts fall under the category of spreading fake news and are a crime punishable by law.
A Punjab Police spokesperson said that while Article 19 of the Pakistan Constitution guarantees freedom of expression, this right must not be misused as an excuse to defame the judiciary, the state, national security and security institutions through defamation, defamation and character assassination.
He clarified that distributing character assassination against individuals or organizations on social media through AI-generated memes, posts, videos and other digital content is not only ethically wrong, but also a criminal offense subject to legal action.
The spokesperson warned that individuals who resort to spreading fake news, false posts, and AI-generated memes and videos simply to gain popularity, increase viewership, or gain personal fame will be strictly punished according to the law.
He said law enforcement agencies will take immediate action if fabricated, unverified or false information is circulated on social media platforms. The spokesperson called on the public to take responsibility and refrain from sharing, forwarding or promoting any form of fake news, false posts, AI memes or videos to avoid legal repercussions.
Inspector Aamir Rizwan martyred
Meanwhile, another brave police officer of Punjab Police laid down his life in the line of duty. Sub-Inspector Aamir Rizwan, Station House Officer (SHO) of Tanaraksyan in Sargodha district, was martyred while responding quickly with his team to reports of firing from the air.

Police conducted a raid in Kot Momin area to arrest suspects involved in the shooting, a Punjab Police spokesperson said. During the operation, the suspects fired indiscriminately at the police party and Sub-Inspector Aamir Rizwan was seriously injured.
The injured police officer was immediately taken to the hospital in critical condition, but later succumbed to his injuries and became a martyr. The spokesperson added that the suspects continued to fire and fled the scene, and that an investigation is currently underway to arrest them.
District Police Officer (DPO) Sargodha assured that the culprits will be arrested soon and brought to justice.
Punjab Inspector General of Police Usman Anwar took note of the incident and sought a detailed report from Regional Police Officer (RPO) Sargodha. He also directed DPO Sargodha to ensure immediate arrest of the suspects involved.
IG Punjab paid great tribute to Inspector Aamir Rizwan who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty and described him as a brave police officer who upheld the highest traditions of the police force.
The IGP further directed DPO Sargodha to immediately contact the families of the martyrs and ensure their full support and support. He assured that the Punjab Police will never abandon the families of the martyrs and will always stand by them.
