Bard is one of the newest artificial intelligence chatbots. Created by Google, the AI chatbot was released in March 2023 after its initial announcement in February. This software was released to a limited number of users for testing.
Chatbots came on the heels of the release of one of their main competitors, OpenAI’s ChatGPT, and are very similar in functionality to that model.
Here are answers to frequently asked questions about the new AI chatbot and its capabilities.

On Google Bard’s website, you can find a link to join the program’s waitlist, as well as two short quotes about AI software. One of the quotes describes Bard and its purpose.
What is the history of AI?
“Meet Bard: a creative and helpful collaborator who is here to spark your imagination, boost your productivity, and bring your ideas to life,” the website says.
There is also a disclaimer to remind users that this is experimental and that the accuracy of Bird’s answers may be flawed.
“Bard is an experiment and may return inaccurate or inappropriate responses. By leaving feedback, we can make Bard better,” the website explains.
Since its release, there has been considerable controversy over one of Bard’s answers being inaccurate.

In the short time it’s been in users’ hands, the Google Bard has already been no stranger to controversy.
In February, Google released a video on social media showing how Bard works.
In the video, Byrd is asked, “What new discoveries from the James Webb Space Telescope can you teach your 9-year-old?”
Byrd then provided a list of three facts, one of which was factually incorrect.
According to Dictionary.com, one of the “facts” provided about this telescope was that it was the first to photograph an “exoplanet,” a planet outside our solar system. In fact, according to NASA, the first photo of its kind was taken in 2004 by the Very Large Telescope (VLT) operated by the European Southern Observatory.

Google Bard’s parent company, Alphabet, lost $100 billion in market value in just one day after the video was published, according to Search Engine Journal.
When chatbots go wrong, these errors are known as “hallucinations.”
Google Bard uses the Language Model for Conversational Applications (LaMDA). Sundar Pichai, his CEO of Google and Alphabet, said in a Google blog post that AI “pulls information from the web to provide fresh, high-quality answers.”
According to Search Engine Journal, Google Bard uses both public conversations and web data to answer questions.
Google Bard is still experimental, so we’re starting a small release with limited access.
After the March 2023 release, access to Google Bard will require waitinglisting through the website.
Based on the information provided on the Google Bard site, there is no official release yet and waiting lists are the only way to access the software.
The original release available now is a “lightweight” and “small” model for testing purposes and to get user feedback, Pichai said in the post.
