Elon Musk's AI chatbot Grok has officially disabled image generation and editing for free users after huge backlash after it was used to generate sexual deepfakes of women and children.
The latest move comes as Musk has been threatened with fines and several countries have publicly pushed back against the tool for creating sexually explicit images.
Users are using Grok to generate photos of women and children and placing them in sexual positions.
“Image generation and editing are currently limited to paid subscribers. You can subscribe to unlock these features,” Grok wrote in a reply to a user on Musk's social platform X.
Recent changes mean that many of the tool's users can no longer generate or edit images using AI.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said: “This is shameful, disgusting and unacceptable.”
“X needs to work together to take this down. This is unacceptable and we will be taking action against it.”
“Those who use Grok to create illegal content will suffer the same consequences as those who upload illegal content,” Musk said this week.
Musk's official security account later announced that it would take action against X's illegal content by removing it, permanently suspending the account, and working with local authorities and law enforcement as necessary.
