Grok Bikini Trend: A few months ago, social media was flooded with the Gemini/Grok saree trend. People used AI tools to reimagine themselves in elegant sarees with a dramatic, old-school Bollywood vibe. By uploading a simple photo and using creative prompts, users receive stylized portraits featuring rich fabrics, cinematic lighting, and vintage aesthetics, making the results look like they came straight out of a '90s movie scene. This trend quickly gained attention for its blend of tradition and technology, sparking excitement, humor, and curiosity while also prompting conversations about AI creativity, realism, and digital privacy.
What is Baikin Trend?
Similar to the saree trend, the “Make Me in a Bikini” trend has dominated X over the past few days, with social media users sharing photos on X (formerly Twitter) while tagging the AI bot Grok, demanding that the photos they shared be half-dressed. While some users willingly shared photos asking Grok to dress them in bikinis, this feature was used maliciously by many other users who shared photos of women on X, instructing Grok to turn simple images into lewd images.

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has written to X (formerly Twitter) for “failure to comply with statutory due diligence obligations” under the Information Technology Act, 2000 and other relevant laws, and sought an action report for “immediate compliance to prevent misuse of 'Grok' and other AI-based services of xAI to host, generate and upload obscene, nude, indecent and sexually explicit content.” service”.
In a letter to the Chief Compliance Officer of its India unit, X Corp, MeitY has advised social media platforms to strictly refrain from hosting, displaying, uploading, publishing, transmitting, storing or sharing content that is obscene, pornographic, vulgar, indecent, sexually explicit, pedophilic or in any other way prohibited under the laws in force for the time being.
“Failure to comply with such due diligence obligations shall result in forfeiture of liability immunity under Section 79 of the IT Act and shall also be liable for consequential actions as provided for under the IT Act and any law, including the BNS,” the letter said.
X takes action
After the ministry's intervention, X removed the trends/content from the feeds of the majority of its users in India. Grok is also currently refusing to honor bikini requests submitted by users. Many women reported that users were commenting under their photos asking Grok to make the images obscene.
