a few days later Kangana Ranaut has condemned the circulation of an AI-generated image showing her wearing a suit instead of a sari in Parliament, while veteran screenwriter and lyricist Javed Akhtar has expressed anger over a fake AI-generated video purporting to have “turned back to God”. Javed is now considering filing a similar lawsuit.
Javed Akhtar slams fake AI video
early Friday morning, Javed took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to react to a fake AI-generated video of himself wearing a skull cap, calling it frivolous. He went on to reveal that he plans to take legal action against those who made misleading claims and circulated deepfake videos of him.
Javed first shared a Facebook link of a video showing an AI-generated image. He expressed his anger in another tweet.
“There's a fake video out there showing a fake computer-generated photo of me with a topic over my head that claims I ultimately turned to God. That's bullshit,” Javed wrote.
The lyricist further added, “I am seriously considering reporting this to the cyber police and ultimately dragged the person responsible for this fake news and the few people who forwarded it to court for damaging my reputation and credibility.”
A few days ago, Javed Akhtar and Islamic scholar Mufti Shamail Nadwi held a public debate in New Delhi titled “Does God Exist?” At the Indian Constitution Club. Following the discussion, an AI-generated image surfaced on social media.
Actors speak out against misuse of AI
Javed's tweet comes days after Kangana raised concerns about her photo being edited by AI. In the AI-edited photo, Kangana was seen leaving Parliament wearing a blue, brown and rust colored suit. Sharing this post, she wrote, “Originally these are my photos taken in Parliament wearing a saree. Please stop using AI on my photos.”
“This is an unspeakable violation. Every day I wake up in the morning and see myself wearing different Al clothes and wearing different makeup, even in edited photos. People should stop dressing up others!! Stop editing these Al and let me choose/decide how I want to look and what I want to wear, which is completely my prerogative,” she added.
Actors last month Sreeleela and Nivetha Thomas address the dangers of AI-generated content and call for ethical use and awareness against privacy violations.
