Jack White has strong words for Republican Rep. Tim Burchett after he shared an AI-generated video of the singer comparing Trump supporters to fascists.
Burchett, a sitting politician in White's home state of Tennessee, reposted a fake video on X in which White says, “Don't even think about listening to my music, you fascists.” “That pretty girl from the Addams Family was really ugly and angry,” Burchett wrote alongside her post. When one user later pointed out that the video wasn't real, Burchett doubled down and responded: “You mean she's not the girl from the Addams Family?”
Mr White did not take kindly to Mr Burchett's initial post and published a lengthy post on Instagram criticizing the politician. “What kind of a joke are we living in right now?” he wrote. “All of Trump's henchmen and thugs like this elected official are cowards who would never speak directly to someone like me or you like this. Trump really lowered standards when he brought disaster to this government. Neither he nor his sycophantic congressmen and women show class or dignity and they all just repeat cheap, childish, grade-school bullying talking points and fake Christian (!) rhetoric.”
“It's really sad how embarrassing our nation's leaders have become. I wish the average American conservative could have a conversation with intelligent people from other countries around the world, just for a moment, to really see what a joke our government (and our agents as our nation) has become.” “It's all about giving power and soapboxes to low-class playground bullies like Trump and Congressman Burchett. The great state of Tennessee deserves Mr. Burchett better, and you and your cult are too dug in and too blind to even realize it.”
White declined to say what was depicted in the AI video, but he has been an outspoken critic of Trump and his administration. In August, he got into a spat with the White House, calling President Trump a danger “not just to America, but to the entire world.” In September 2024, White and fellow White Stripes band member Meg White filed a lawsuit against Trump for “clear misappropriation” over his use of their song “Seven Nation Army” in a social media post.
